Examples of the iron mill industry

Kleentek's proposal to those involved in the iron mill industry

What problems are you having? ●Expected performance cannot be attained. ●Malfunctions occur while testing.

Iron mill is one of the most capital intensive industries, and thoroughly automated so that processes may continue consistently. Therefore even minor hydraulic problems invite not only loss of product quality but also productivity.

Explained below are some applications of EOC practiced at a typical iron mill. *Only the representative ones are listed.

Iron mill processes

  • Mud gun: Hydraulic system for a clay-mud extruder used to plug the iron outlet port. after dis charging molten iron in the blast furnace.
  • Furnace top control: Hydraulic control system for charging materials from the top.

Steel mill processes

  • Converter lance: Hydraulic system for a device that blasts oxygen
  • Electric furnace: Hydraulic system for lifting up and down the carbon electrodes in the arc-processing.
  • Continuous cast: Hydraulic system for surface level control of molten iron- pitch and roll (keeping the work plane horizontal)

Rolling process

  • AGC: Automatic Gauge Control (Hydraulic system for controlling plate thickness and width, using servo mechanism controlled to 1/100 of plate thickness.)
  • EPC: Edge Position Control (Hydraulic system for keeping the plate stay in the middle of the roller, and for pushing in and out a mandrill to keep both edges of rolled plate line up while reeled in.)

Advantage of oil control

  • Oil oxidation products create operational problem for solenoid valve and servo valves. Electrostatic oil cleaner, EOC, is very effective way for removing them.
  • Reducing the maintenance cost, i.e., eliminating overhaul cost of servo valves as well as replacement costs of components such as pumps, and reduction of steps.
